Stickers

While in Steamboat Springs I had the opportunity to make a run of stickers for the band thanks to Gwen S.Power who does vinyl lettering and graphics. I was able to print a run of full color circular stickers (border color/design may be different)

As well as simple text in several colors (White, Blue, Black)

There should be enough to go around for the next lineup of shows in January so keep an eye out.

The West Coast

Captain has been low profile (as if we weren't enough already) since the CD release. This is mainly due to one of the members taking a trip across the country and back, that member being me. On the journey I'll be traveling down the west coast from Seattle to L.A. before returning to Tallahassee.

While on that stretch I'm hoping to come across 6 good places to drop off our west cost demo.

These are free CD's that sample 2 songs from both our released albums as well as 2 previously unreleased tracks; Grave Robbers and Staring at Black Eyes. For those fans who want them both songs are now available to download for free on our Bandcamp page (http://captain.bandcamp.com)

Also in the spirit of equal opportunity the demo includes a discount code to use on bandcamp for 25% off any download. For anyonw interested that code is:

Until next time,

A jewel case version of the cd is in the works as well, for now only being used to send to radio stations. If there is enough demand we will do a 2nd run of the album (jewel case version) but for now supplies are limited.

The album is for sale at our bandcamp site in its digital form for $8. You can also purchase a copy of our first release, Dead Cat, as well as a few singles.

Here's the Skinny on our CD Release

Okay, Captain's been hush hush about the upcoming cd release but here's what's going on.

We're doing a limited release of our new album Choose Your Own Adventure. Each CD comes in a hand made book box with a lyrics mini book and a free digital download of the album.

We've been working on these for over a month; cutting, painting, screen printing, and what have you to make this a unique item for our fans to take home and hopefully hold on to and remember.

Just so we're clear these are all books that would have otherwise gone into the recycling, so we gave them a new purpose. All works by the authors have been removed or painted over and no copyright infringement is taking place or intended. Only the physical properties of the books are being reused.

The special edition is only $10 at the CD release and if you also purchase our Dead Cat album you can get both for $13.

Again, this is a limited run (50 to be exact). They're the first and only of their kind.

If you're in Tallahassee on June 2nd head to The Paperback Rack (1005 N Monroe St, Tallahassee, FL 32303). The Show starts at 8 pm with special guests Dream in Spanish (http://louisduluoz.bandcamp.com/) and Little Lamplight (http://littlelamplight.bandcamp.com/)

If you miss the show we will have the album available for download on our bandcamp page:

Hope to see you there!

Captain's Log

Lets start with a little history lesson.

Captain is the collected efforts of Will Cummings, Sean Hogan, Tim Bemid, and Chase Lurding (in no particular order). These fine fellows are from Tallahassee, Florida which is where the band was born and raised. In August of 2010 Will quit his state job at DCF to build a very home-grown recording studio and see just what could happen if the only responsibilities in life were to make music and enjoy the love and company of friends. Prior to this endeavor there were three recordings produced by Will, Tim, and Chase that sparked the project that would be Captain. One of those songs was called Medusa and has withheld the test of time as it is to this day a band favorite and crowd pleaser (for those who know who we are).

Back to point though, once Sean joined the crew the band started as a recording project with no limitations to subject matter, style, genre, or any reason not to do something. The first few months proved productive, for as many songs were written as there were days gone by. Within a year over 100 original recordings were produced, and to date the count climbs closer to 200 every month.
"So what do you do with all of these songs?" you may ask. Well, in October of 2010 Captain played their first gig at a Halloween show on Franklin blvd. and the 8 song set list was raw but encouraging. Slowly the band attempted to crawl its way out of the studio and into the live music scene. Local venues like Birds Aphrodisiac Oyster Shack and Mockingbird Cafe were early stomping grounds, as well as several house shows and small stages and shacks that hosted events to support local music. In November of 2011 Captain hit the road and played a music festival in Deland, Florida that set the bar for what could be done for a live audience, as well as how far away from home. Since then the band has branched out to more local shows adding more and more songs to the live performance including acoustic versions of our heavy-hearted songs like Share The Light at places like The What? Cafe and Paperback Rack.

Captain accidentally self released its first full length album, Dead Cat, at our local bookstore The Paperback Rack and online through Bandcamp. This is a collection of songs that didn't make it on the intended first release album, Choose Your Own Adventure (which is still in production), but needed to be heard. It was also becoming clear that some people wanted to have recordings of the band and even unpolished it was worth releasing, so thanks to Memorex CDR's and neon construction paper an album was born.

The second full length is set to be released in June and will only be available at The Paperback Rack and at upcoming shows. More on that to come, but in the meantime you can catch Captain in Deland, Florida once again on Saturday April 28th for Delandapalooza starting at 11PM at Cafe Davinci.
